Toilet training your cat....
Sounds like a dream come true? No litter on the carpet, no hauling it to the garbage, NO SMELL.
Sadly,
Most cat owners would not know where to begin when training their cats to use the potty. It is surprisingly simple though, and if you follow these steps, you will have your cat toilet trained in no time.
1. Move their litter box into the bathroom next to the toilet. Leave it here for a week or two until they adjust to its new location.
2. Slowly, using phone books or magazines, raise the box to the same height as the toilet seat - do this very slowly over a period of time to allow them to get used to it being off the ground. Any of these steps done too fast will be too large of a change for your cat and your efforts will be in vain.
3. Once they are used to this, take a small foil roasting pan just large enough to fit under the toilet seat and fill it with litter. Now here comes one of the hard parts: you need to try to catch him while he's going - place him on the toilet seat and make sure that he knows that there is a pan of litter in there for him to use. Adjust his paws as necessary to make sure that he gets used to standing on the toilet seat.
4. Over the course of the next few weeks, slowly add less and less litter to the pan until there is none (this can get a little gross - make sure to rinse it out often.) As soon as this is completed, slowly start adding water to the pan until Mr. Kitty is used to the sound of his "stuff" hitting the water.
Congratulations!!! Your cat is toilet trained!
